The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) believes that a suspect known as “Kajja” — identified as Arun Vithanagamage — may have been traveling in the jeep that followed rugby player Wasim Thajudeen’s car just minutes before his death.

Although the CID has been investigating Thajudeen’s murder for the past 13 years, they have still not been able to definitively identify those directly responsible for the killing.

In this context, Kajja, who was later shot dead in Miththaniya, had been identified by his wife as the person traveling in the jeep that followed Thajudeen’s car, according to a statement she gave to investigators.

During the investigation, when CCTV footage related to the incident was shown to her, she identified her husband in the footage. Following this, CID investigators confirmed that the person seen in the footage was indeed Kajja.

The CID further announced that investigations are ongoing to further confirm this finding and to identify other individuals involved.

Meanwhile, Kajja’s eldest son has also requested that the investigation be reopened, asserting that the person seen in the footage is indeed his father.
