China Reaffirms Commitment to Support Sri Lanka’s Future Development – Wang Junzheng

China has pledged its full support for Sri Lanka’s future development, according to Wang Junzheng, Member of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Party Secretary of the Xizang Autonomous Region.
He made these remarks while addressing a briefing on the outcomes of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, held on Dec 23 at the Shangri-La Hotel during his two-day official visit to Sri Lanka.
He stated that the plenary session finalized a five-year economic development plan covering 2026 to 2030, as well as a 15-year long-term development framework aimed at jointly addressing global challenges.
President Xi Jinping’s primary objective, he said, is to ensure that China’s economic growth also benefits all friendly nations with which it maintains bilateral and multilateral relations.
He highlighted the historic bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and China, citing the Rubber–Rice Pact as a key example, and noted that the two countries have now completed six decades of diplomatic relations.
China remains ready to support Sri Lanka’s future development, particularly following President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China in January this year and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya’s subsequent visit.
China will continue to support Sri Lanka’s infrastructure development and is committed to cooperation in education, health, innovation, energy, climate chansge, modern technology, and digitalization.
China has also pledged full cooperation and support for Sri Lanka’s recovery under President Dissanayake’s leadership.
He added that major projects including the Port City development and the Hambantota oil refinery are expected to be advanced next year. He also invited Sri Lankan stakeholders to visit the Xizang Autonomous
Region for tourism and investment opportunities, noting its strong economic growth and Buddhist heritage.
