Cabinet approves MoUs with international universities to strengthen higher education

Cabinet approval has been granted to enter into memorandums of understanding between local and foreign universities to ensure quality higher education.
According to a proposal presented by the Prime Minister in his capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education at the Cabinet meeting, Sri Lankan universities have been granted permission to establish collaborative agreements with foreign universities and institutions.
Accordingly, Cabinet approval has been granted to enter into the following agreements:
University of Peradeniya and the Alliance of National and International Scientific Organizations for the “Belt and Road” Regions: A project agreement to conduct an International Water Summit on climate change and environmental pollution.
University of Peradeniya and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China: A research collaboration and material transfer agreement to study the spread of MRSA in humans, animals, and the environment, including antimicrobial resistance and genetic diversity.
University of Kelaniya and Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, Japan: An MoU aimed at enhancing educational cooperation, fostering friendship through academic, professional, and cultural activities between faculty and students, and conducting joint research, seminars, and workshops.
University of Vavuniya and Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India: An MoU to establish educational and research cooperation in mutually agreed fields, exchange academic information and materials, facilitate student and academic staff exchanges, and conduct joint seminars and workshops.
University of Vavuniya and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations: An MoU to obtain the services of visiting professors for the University of Vavuniya on a contractual basis.
