The Cabinet has approved the award of the construction contract for the expansion of the departure terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd.

The approval was granted based on a proposal submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation.

Under the Airport Infrastructure Development Project, international competitive bids were invited for the construction of a new terminal building comprising 36 additional passenger check-in counters and six new boarding gates.

After evaluating the three bids received, the Cabinet-Appointed Procurement Committee recommended awarding the contract to Maga Engineering, which met all the required technical qualifications and submitted the lowest responsive bid.

Accordingly, the expansion project will be carried out at a cost of US$7.26 million and Rs. 3.77 billion, excluding Value Added Tax (VAT).
