Appeal hearings for the convicts sentenced to death for the abduction, gang rape, and murder of Pungudutivu schoolgirl Sivaloganathan Vidya have concluded, and the case has been postponed indefinitely for the final judgment.

The hearings were held before a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, along with Justices Achala Wengapuli, Priyantha Fernando, Menaka Wijesundara, and Sampath Abeykoon.

When the appeal hearing began yesterday, Senior Attorney Darshan Kuruppu represented the main convict, Mahalingam Sasikumar alias Swiss Kumar, arguing that the charges of abduction, sexual assault, and murder conspiracy were baseless.
