Allegations Against Ruling Party Shelved: Sanjeeva Edirimanna
28-Dec-2025.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna media spokesperson Sanjeeva Edirimanna alleged that police have shelved complaints made against government ministers and deputy ministers, while complainants themselves are being treated as offenders.
He made these remarks at a press conference held at the SLPP office on Dec 26 claiming that the Inspector General of Police is acting as an IGP of the National People’s Power.
Edirimanna strongly condemned the government’s hostile approach toward private television channels and called on all media institutions and journalists to unite.
He said the ruling party came to power promising good governance and a new political culture, yet within a year multiple corruption scandals involving government members had emerged, including claims of fake academic qualifications.
He alleged that no investigations have been carried out into complaints made against ministers and deputy ministers, citing cases involving an attack on the Frontline Socialist Party office and container-related complaints lodged with the CID.
Edirimanna said the police are now attempting to criminalize those who file complaints and described the conduct of the current IGP as improper.
