Afghanistan says Pak breaches truce, fires on its forces as 3rd round of talks begin
07-Nov-2025.
Pakistani forces fired on Afghan border positions in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district on November 6, even as the third round of talks between the two sides began in Istanbul, Afghan officials and media reported.
The exchange threatens to derail the fragile ceasefire agreement reached just days earlier.
A government source in Spin Boldak told TOLOnews that Pakistani troops opened fire and launched mortars twice — once in the morning and again in the afternoon.
The source said Afghan border forces, following leadership orders, “remained committed to the ceasefire and did not respond.” The motive behind the attacks, the official added, “is still unclear.”
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed that Pakistani forces initiated firing in the area, causing concern among residents.
He said Afghan forces had avoided retaliation “out of respect for the negotiating team and to prevent civilian casualties.”
