ADB Extends USD 100 Million Loan to Strengthen Sri Lanka’s Health Sector

The Government of Sri Lanka has signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a USD 100 million loan to enhance the country’s healthcare sector, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The agreement was signed by Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, on behalf of Sri Lanka, and Takafumi Kadono, ADB’s Country Director for Sri Lanka, on behalf of the Bank.
The loan is being provided through the ADB’s Ordinary Capital Resources program. It will support the National Strategic Framework for the Development of Health Services, aiming to improve the capacity and quality of secondary healthcare and to ensure universal health protection as a first-line intervention.
The Ministry further stated that the financial package includes an externally funded grant of USD 6.9 million under the Pandemic Fund, based on results-based lending principles.
