705 kg of Narcotics Seized in Major Tangalle Raid

A total of 705 kilograms of narcotics were seized during a special operation in Tangalle. 

One suspect has been arrested, and multiple police teams are conducting investigations from different angles, Police Spokesman SSP F.U. Woodler announced at the cabinet press briefing on September 23.

The investigation began following the suspicious death of an individual admitted to Tangalle Hospital on September 22. 

Subsequent raids in areas including Tangalle–Kahawathurakodda and Seenimodara led to the recovery of 705 kg of narcotics, including 284 kg of heroin and 420 kg of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”).

Authorities are conducting further investigations into the ownership of the properties where the drugs were found. 

During the raids, police also seized one T-56 rifle, five revolvers, a motorcycle, and three lorries.

With this seizure, the total drugs recovered in 2025 to date include: 1,243 kg of heroin, 1,845 kg of crystal meth, 472 kg of hashish, 29 kg of cocaine, and 14,507 kg of cannabis. Police teams are continuing wide-ranging investigations without setbacks, the spokesman emphasized.
