A shipment of 35 tons of relief items announced by the Russian government to assist affected people arrived in the country.

Because of the floods and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, hundreds have died and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods. Various international governments, NGOs, and private organizations continue to send aid to Sri Lanka.

In that context, the aircraft carrying the Russian relief goods landed at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport on Dec 11.

The shipment included generators, water-pumping motors, tents, rice, sugar, and oil, amounting to roughly 35 tons of essential supplies.

These items were formally handed over yesterday by the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Levan Dzhagaryan, to the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka and Deputy Minister of Defence Arun Jayasekara.
