“The purpose for which martyr Thileepan fasted unto death has still not been fulfilled. Even today, his dream remains unmet,” said TNA MP Thurairasa Ravikaran (Vanni District) in Parliament on September 26 during the debate on the COPE report.

Paying tribute, he said:

“Thirty-eight years ago, Thileepan (Rasaiah Parthipan) sacrificed his life in a non-violent hunger strike, demanding five conditions for Tamil rights. Yet, Eelam Tamils continue to live in their homeland without rights, facing systematic Sinhalese colonization.

Tamil political prisoners remain incarcerated, and militarization of the Tamil homeland continues. Therefore, the vision and demands for which Thileepan gave his life remain unachieved.”
