Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stated that the government’s development agenda is rooted in sustainability and human dignity, emphasizing that the government’s goal is to ensure progress that reaches every region of the country and uplifts all communities.

She made these remarks while addressing an event held at the United Nations Office in Colombo on October 24, to mark the United Nations Day 2025.

The Prime Minister commended the UN for its eight decades of global service and for maintaining a meaningful partnership with Sri Lanka for over seven decades. She reaffirmed her government’s commitment to upholding the principles of the UN Charter and to strengthening multilateral cooperation in promoting peace, human rights, sustainable development, and addressing global challenges.

“Eight decades ago, the nations of the world united to protect future generations from the scourge of war and reaffirmed their faith in human rights, social progress, and development. The principles enshrined in the UN Charter remain relevant even in today’s context,” she noted.

Recalling Sri Lanka’s long-standing collaboration with the United Nations, Prime Minister Amarasuriya highlighted that Sri Lanka has been a responsible member state since 1955 and continues to make significant contributions toward global peace, diplomacy, and sustainable development.
