A ‘Freedom Water’ collection event was held on August 10 at Araly Muthamil Public Social Center to demand the release of political prisoners who have long languished in prisons.

Before the water collection, a two-minute silence was observed. Afterwards, residents and children from Araly poured freedom water brought from their homes into a vessel.

Organized by the Voice of the Voiceless group, the event was supported by its coordinator M. Komagan, Jaffna University students, members of the Siragugal organization, Muthamil Public Social Center staff, Araly residents, and children.

The project, initiated throughout the Tamil homeland in the northeast, plans to collect freedom water in diaspora countries demanding political prisoners’ release. The collected water will be poured to plant a freedom tree, symbolizing hope.
