A study has found that people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes face a higher risk of sudden cardiac death. The astounding part is that the risk is high, especially among younger adults.

Researchers analysed all 54,028 deaths in Denmark in 2010, and identified 6,862 as sudden cardiac deaths. The study was published in the European Heart Journal.

By correlating these data with diabetes records, they determined that sudden cardiac death was 3.7 times more common in people with type 1 diabetes and 6.5 times more common in those with type 2 diabetes than in the general population.
