Maithili Thakur's 5-year-old Tamil song goes viral

Popular folk singer and newly elected MLA from Bihar’s Alinagar, Maithili Thakur, shared a video of her singing a Tamil track, ‘Kannaana Kanney’ from the 2018 film 'Viswasam', starring Ajith Kumar. 

The song, which first came out five years ago, is going viral once again.

The singer once again sang the song and shared on social media as the cover is trending yet again. She also credited the original rendition to singer Sid Sriram, composer D Imman and lyricist Thamarai. 

Her post drew praise from several Tamil Nadu leaders, including Annamalai.

The video drew praise from several X users who said her Tamil song was a refreshing counter to the perceived North–South linguistic divide.
