Pak to face 22% water shortage

Pakistan's Indus River System Authority projects a 22% irrigation water shortfall for Punjab and Sindh during the 2026-27 Rabi season, critical for wheat and other crops.

Despite accusations against India for depriving Pakistan of water after suspending the Indus Water Treaty, the shortage is largely due to Pakistan's own delayed hydropower projects, inadequate reservoir storage, and lower river inflows.

This water deficit threatens food security, potentially reducing wheat harvests and increasing reliance on imports amidst ongoing regional tensions.
