Petition Filed Seeking Permission for Gnanasara Thera to Wear Saffron Robes in Court

A fundamental rights petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an order directing prison authorities to ensure that the Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera, who is serving a prison sentence, is produced before courts wearing his saffron robes when required to appear in other cases.

The petition was filed by Shantha Jayatilaka, a retired Air Force officer.

The petition names the Commissioner-General of Prisons, the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General as respondents.
