A special discussion on the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) development programme for Sri Lanka for the 2026–2029 period was held recently at the Presidential Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and ADB Sri Lanka Resident Director Shenan Kaulin.

The discussion served as a preliminary meeting ahead of the project review scheduled to be held on 5 and 6 October 2026 in connection with the successful implementation of the ADB’s annual work programme for 2027.

Special attention was given to identifying development projects that should be prioritised for inclusion in the ADB’s long-term programme framework.

The participants also discussed ensuring government ownership of projects implemented with ADB financial assistance, maintaining clear and effective coordination between government procedures and ADB procedures, and making effective use of limited concessional financial resources and technical assistance.

Attention was also focused on the measures and approaches required to further accelerate Sri Lanka’s development and successfully address the challenges arising in achieving the country’s fiscal targets within a shorter timeframe.

Additional Presidential Secretary W. D. R. Krishantha, Senior Assistant Secretary to the President Dr. Thanushka Perera, and senior officials of the Asian Development Bank also participated in the discussion.
