Letter Containing Death Threat Sent to Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara

The Criminal Investigation Department has commenced a comprehensive investigation into an incident involving a death threat issued against Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara.

As directed by the Inspector General of Police, CID officers recorded a statement from Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara on September 30, 2026, as part of the investigation.

The investigation is being conducted based on a notification made by Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara to the Inspector General of Police regarding a letter containing a death threat received by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Court sources stated that the Inspector General of Police had also informed the Secretary to the President about the incident.

Police are also investigating how a letter sent by Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara to the Inspector General of Police regarding the death threat against him was published on YouTube.

Police said statements had also been recorded in connection with the matter.

The police stated that investigations had commenced into the YouTube channel that published the information and that steps were being taken to record statements from its officials.

Following the incident, the Inspector General of Police has instructed that security provided to Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara be further strengthened.
