Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara on September 30, 2026, ordered that Sangeeth Jayasekara, who was arrested on allegations of spreading false information that a training camp and an explosives manufacturing facility belonging to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) existed in the Pala area of Kilinochchi, be further remanded until October 7.

Police officers attached to the Terrorism Investigation Division informed the court that the suspect had held a press conference at a hotel in Colombo on August 14 and made the allegedly completely false statement.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect was in possession of three national identity cards and had also prepared several other forged documents.

Although the suspect claimed that a forest department official from the Kilinochchi area had provided him with the information, statements recorded from the official and his wife established that they had not provided any such information.

After considering the statements submitted by the police that further investigations were required into the suspect’s telephone call records and his alleged use of forged identity cards, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be further remanded until October 7.
