Karnataka to move Supreme Court against Cauvery water release order for Tamil Nadu

The Karnataka government plans to challenge the Supreme Court order mandating the release of 6,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days, citing critically low reservoir levels and prioritizing drinking water. 

Water Resources Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy announced preparations to file a petition and a review petition against the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s order. The government may appoint a Special Advocate for the Supreme Court and hopes improved rainfall post-Gowri-Ganesha festival will ease the water crisis.
