Training aircraft crashes at Ratmalana Airport

A training aircraft belonging to a private aviation training school crashed after making a sudden landing at Ratmalana Airport.

Airport sources confirmed that the incident occurred on August 25, 2026, and that the pilot escaped without injuries.

The Cessna 152 training aircraft, operated by a private flight training school based at Ratmalana Airport, met with the accident while attempting to land following a routine training flight.

The aircraft, bearing registration number 4R-DRA, sustained considerable damage after striking the runway during landing. However, the trainee pilot on board escaped unharmed.

Following the incident, runway operations and air traffic services at Ratmalana Airport were temporarily disrupted. Relevant authorities are taking steps to safely remove the damaged aircraft from the runway, repair the affected area and restore normal operations.

The Civil Aviation Authority is conducting further investigations into the cause of the accident.
