Three suspects, including ‘Rathmalana Saima’, an associate of Kanjipani Imran, brought back from Malaysia

Three suspects, including Danushka Kaushalya, alias ‘Rathmalana Kudu Saima’, an alleged organised crime figure associated with underworld leader Kanjipani Imran, have been brought back to Sri Lanka following their arrest in Malaysia with the assistance of Malaysian police.

The suspects were arrested by a team of Sri Lankan police officers led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala.

Following the completion of questioning by Malaysian police, officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who had travelled to Malaysia to bring the suspects back to Sri Lanka, arrived in the country with them at around 4.28 p.m. on August 10, 2026, aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-315.

Based on information received during investigations that Kanjipani Imran and individuals closely associated with him were hiding in Malaysia, a team of Sri Lankan police officers led by ASP Rohan Olugala travelled to Malaysia and launched a covert operation with the assistance of Malaysian police and Interpol.

During the operation, officers searched several locations where information indicated that Imran and other suspects had been staying.

Police investigations have revealed that Saima, who had previously been a close associate of ‘Kudu Anju’, a person who has been hiding in France for a prolonged period, began working closely with Kanjipani Imran after Imran warned him that Kudu Anju was allegedly planning to assassinate him.

The suspects, including Rathmalana Saima, who had reportedly fled to Malaysia around 10 years ago, are facing allegations in connection with murders and several organised criminal activities.
