Yoshitha Rajapaksa Case Postponed Until August 7

The Homagama High Court has postponed until August 7 the hearing of the case concerning a deposit of Rs. 17 million into a private bank account belonging to Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The order was issued by Homagama High Court Judge Krishanthi Amaratunga when the case was taken up for hearing.

The case, filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, came up for a full hearing yesterday. Yoshitha Rajapaksa appeared before the open court, while President's Counsel Sampath Mendis represented the defence.

The indictment was filed before the Homagama High Court on March 10 in connection with the alleged deposit of Rs. 17 million into Yoshitha Rajapaksa's private bank account.

At the previous hearing, Judge Amaratunga granted the accused bail on two cash bails of Rs. 200,000 each and two personal bails of Rs. 5 million each. The court also imposed a foreign travel ban and directed him to report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the first and third Sundays of every month.
