Prime Minister Meets UNICEF Representatives

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met a delegation from UNICEF at Temple Trees on June 14 to discuss ongoing efforts to address the impact of Cyclone Tithwa on Sri Lanka’s education sector.
Discussions focused on implementing activities outlined in the report titled “Cyclone Tithwa Education Emergency Response Plan: Phase One Progress Report (January-April 2026).”
The meeting reviewed progress achieved during the initial response phase and explored future interventions aimed at supporting affected students and schools.
The Prime Minister and UNICEF representatives also exchanged views on ensuring uninterrupted education, improving welfare support for affected children and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
UNICEF Representative to Sri Lanka Emma Brigham, Deputy Representative Begona Arellano and other UNICEF officials attended the meeting.
