Taiwan's coast guard expelled four Chinese government ships that entered restricted waters near Taiwan, amid heightened tensions following Japan and the Philippines' announcement of maritime boundary talks involving waters near Taiwan. China claimed law-enforcement rights in these waters, but Taiwan contested Beijing's sovereignty claims and warned of international sanctions. 

Chinese maritime activity near Taiwan has increased recently, with frequent military operations. Taiwan rejects China's territorial claims, viewing China as an aggressor determined to annex the island, escalating regional geopolitical friction.
