Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said the government’s objective is to build an education system that enables all children across the country to access new technological opportunities.

She made these remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of the National Competition of the “World Robot Olympiad,” held on March 28 at the Burhani Serendib International School in Colombo. The event was aimed at elevating the technological skills of Sri Lanka’s younger generation to an international level.

This year, 66 teams from across the country participated, representing a threefold increase compared to last year. Under the theme “Robots Meet Culture,” more than 500 students took part and showcased innovative creations integrating local culture with modern engineering.

Continuing her speech, the Prime Minister stated that in today’s rapidly changing world, focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics must become a national priority. Opportunities such as the World Robot Olympiad provide an excellent platform for young people to develop essential skills such as logical thinking, innovation, and collaboration.

She noted that Sri Lanka’s participation with two teams for the first time at the International Robot Olympiad held in Singapore in 2025 was a significant experience for the country’s children. She emphasized that the government’s goal is to develop an education system that ensures such technological opportunities are accessible to children in all regions of the country.

The event was attended by the Prime Minister’s Secretary Pradeep Saputhanthri, officials from the Indian High Commission, government officials, and a large number of school students.
