Japan to Supply Low-Floor Buses Under Grant Agreement

A grant agreement was signed between Japanese Ambassador Akio Isomata and Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development, Prof. K. Kapila C.K. Perera, for the supply of eight low-floor buses for public transport under the “Grant Assistance for Human Security Projects” scheme.

Japan has allocated USD 362,476 (approximately Rs. 112 million) for this project. These buses meet Euro 4 emission standards and are environmentally friendly. They are aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving economic efficiency, and supporting the government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative. The buses will also improve accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, directly supporting Japan’s human security policy.
