President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has assured leaders of all political parties that there will be no shortage in domestic gas supply until April 20. He further stated that supply beyond that date would depend on the arrival of gas shipments, while measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted distribution.

An all-party leaders’ meeting was held on March 20, at the Parliamentary complex to discuss in detail the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and their potential direct impact on Sri Lanka’s economy.

The meeting, chaired by the President, was attended by leaders of all political parties represented in Parliament.

Gas supply was a key topic of discussion. The President noted that due to disruptions in the supply chain caused by escalating conflicts in the Middle East, the government is exploring options to allow consumers to exchange available gas cylinders—whether Litro or Laugfs—based on existing stock.

He reiterated that there would be no shortage until April 20, and assured that steps are underway to maintain continuity in supply thereafter.

The President also guaranteed that there will be no shortage of fertiliser required for agriculture. He stated that although there had been requests to increase fertiliser prices for the next cultivation season, an agreement has been reached at a lower rate than initially proposed.

Regarding fuel, he assured party leaders that despite existing restrictions, there will be no shortage. He acknowledged concerns raised about insufficient fuel allocations for farmers and pledged corrective action.

Transport difficulties faced by garment sector workers were also highlighted, with emphasis on ensuring adequate bus services. The President responded that requirements would be assessed through garment companies and necessary transport services arranged.
