Vijay Thanigasalam Appointed Associate Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Adoption

Vijay Thanigasalam, who is of Sri Lankan origin, has been appointed by Ontario Premier Doug Ford as the province's first Associate Minister responsible for Artificial Intelligence and Adoption.

The appointment is regarded as recognition of his commitment to public service and his contribution towards the development of the province.

The creation of this ministerial portfolio also demonstrates the rapid growth of technology and artificial intelligence and the commitment of political leaders to strengthening the economy and preparing for future opportunities.

Associate Minister Vijay Thanigasalam has served as the Ontario Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough-Rouge Park continuously since 2018, securing his third consecutive term. He also holds the distinction of being the first Tamil to serve in the Ontario Cabinet, in 2023.

Accordingly, he served as Associate Minister for Transportation in 2023, Associate Minister for Housing in 2024 and, most recently, as Associate Minister for Health.
