Inquest begins into 2021 death of Wiikemkoong man at Sudbury jail

An inquest has begun into the death of a Wiikwemkoong man who died four days after being placed in custody at the Sudbury District Jail.  

Justin Alexander Trudeau, 44, died on February 13, 2021 at the Sudbury jail. The jury has yet to hear what his suspected cause of death was.

On Monday, the first day of the eight-day inquest, testimony was focused on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the correctional system. 

The jury heard testimony from two nurses who were working in the jail at the time of Trudeau’s death.
