Police have requested the general public to act with discipline and calmness to ensure the successful continuation of the internationally recognised “Peace Walk.”

While gathering along both sides of the route to pay respects, the public has been urged not to obstruct the respected Buddhist monks or the diplomatic delegation, and to cooperate in ensuring their safety.

The walk, which began in Dambulla town, is scheduled to pass through Naula, Matale, Kandy, Kadugannawa, Kegalle, Tholangamuwa, Gajugama, Yakkala, Mahara and Kelaniya, before reaching Independence Square in Colombo on 28 April.

The internationally renowned dog “Aloka” has also joined the Peace Walk, and large crowds have been seen gathering along the roadsides to pay tribute.

However, police have reported incidents in certain areas where people have been pushing one another, rushing forward, taking unnecessary photographs and videos, and attempting to touch the dog.

As such behaviour disrupts the Peace Walk, authorities have once again appealed to the public to maintain orderly and respectful conduct.
