The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has ordered the issuance of an open warrant against Nayomali Wijenayake, wife of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged fraud surrounding the procurement of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on 17 August 2026.

During the proceedings, officers appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that Nayomali Wijenayake, who has been named as the second suspect in the case, had already been served with a date-specific warrant by the court. They therefore requested that an open warrant against the suspect be issued in English.

Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife Priyangi Anushka, who had stood as sureties for the suspect's bail, informed the court that they wished to withdraw as sureties. President's Counsel Anil Silva, appearing on their behalf, stated that the cash bail of Rs. 10 million furnished in the case could be forfeited to the State.

After examining the case record, the Magistrate observed that the amount payable was Rs. 20 million (200 lakh) and not Rs. 10 million. The court further directed that it must be informed before any order is made to forfeit the money to the State.

President's Counsel Anil Silva also informed the court that his clients, the sureties, were required to travel overseas on an urgent matter. The Magistrate accordingly directed that a written application seeking withdrawal as sureties and consenting to the forfeiture of the bail amount be filed before court.

Having considered the evidence presented before court yesterday, the Magistrate further ordered that the open warrant against Nayomali Wijenayake be issued in English as well.

The case has been fixed for further hearing on 22 August.
