06-Jul-2026.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said Namal Rajapaksa would be fielded at future elections only if the people requested it, adding that he has no intention of retiring from politics.
Speaking to the media after visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, Rajapaksa said the country was facing a difficult situation and that public opinion would determine the party's future leadership.
He also said the party would work to reunite members who had left in recent years and accused the Government of failing to address the concerns of farmers despite its public statements.
