Inquiry into Anuradhapura child abuse case: Women MPs’ caucus issues directives

The Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus has instructed relevant authorities to strictly adhere to court directives in the ongoing investigation into the alleged child abuse case in Anuradhapura.
The meeting, chaired by Minister Sarojha Savithri Paulraj, included officials from the Attorney General’s Department, National Child Protection Authority, Probation and Child Care Services, and the Police.
The caucus called for expedited collection of forensic and medical reports and directed the National Child Protection Authority to closely monitor proceedings, as the case spans multiple courts.
It also emphasized the need to prevent further trauma to the victim and requested stronger inter-agency coordination. The Attorney General’s Department agreed to appear before the Magistrate’s Court in Anuradhapura to streamline proceedings.
The caucus also urged the development of media guidelines to protect the privacy and dignity of child victims in reporting.
