Government Extends Temporary Housing Rent Allowance for Disaster Victims

The Cabinet has approved a three-month extension of the monthly temporary housing rent allowance for families displaced by landslides and floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

A special Treasury circular, signed by Treasury Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, has been issued to all ministries, provincial councils, departments and district and divisional secretariats.

Under the revised scheme, homeowners who lost their houses due to natural disasters will continue to receive a monthly rental allowance of Rs. 25,000 until permanent houses are constructed. All other conditions set out in the original Budget Circular dated 5 December 2025 will remain unchanged.
