Fuel Distribution Reintroduced Under QR Code System
17-Mar-2026.
The Ministry of Energy has decided to reintroduce the National Fuel Pass (QR Code) system due to the ongoing war situation in the Middle East and the abnormal increase in fuel demand within the country.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
Accordingly, the ministry announced that the QR code system became mandatory from 6.00 a.m. on 15 March.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
The ministry stated that fuel supply routes are being increasingly affected due to the conflict in the Middle East.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
At the same time, with fuel demand rising sharply in the country, available stocks must be managed carefully to support economic activities.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
Authorities have identified illegal hoarding and black-market sales as a major cause of the abnormal increase in demand.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
To prevent such malpractices and ensure the smooth continuation of public life and economic activities, fuel will not be issued at any filling station without a QR code from 6.00 a.m. on 15 March.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
Those whose vehicle ownership and phone number remain unchanged may download their QR code from https://fuelpass.gov.lk/ from midnight on 14 March.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
If either detail has changed, re-registration must be completed through the same website from 6.00 a.m. on 15 March.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
Owners who have not previously registered and those with newly registered vehicles at the Department of Motor Traffic must register through the website from 6.00 a.m.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
Fuel required for vehicles engaged in national production and essential services will be distributed under a special programme in coordination with the relevant institutions.
\\r\\n\\r\\n
Fuel for private passenger buses will be supplied through the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
