Committee submits report on transparent presidential pardon process
12-Jul-2026.
A committee appointed to recommend a transparent and accountable procedure for granting presidential pardons to convicted prisoners has submitted its report to the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice.
The committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge S. Thurairaja, was appointed by the Cabinet in June last year to review the existing legal framework governing presidential pardons. Its recommendations focus on strengthening transparency, consistency and accountability in the exercise of pardon powers.
