Sri Lankan people are affectionate and compassionate. Lord Gautama Buddha preached love and righteousness to the world. Therefore, I urge the people of Sri Lanka to follow love and righteousness, said US-based Vietnamese Buddhist monk Venerable Pannagakara Thero.

He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, government officials, security forces, and the people of Sri Lanka for their full cooperation in the Peace Walk pilgrimage. He also offered blessings to Sri Lanka and its people, stating that may love and peace prevail.

The “Walk for Peace” pilgrimage, which commenced in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, concluded on April 28, at Independence Square in Colombo. He made these remarks while delivering a special address at the event.

He further stated:

During our pilgrimage undertaken with the aim of promoting world peace, the sacred land of Sri Lanka welcomed us with great affection. Rain, heat, and cold are not new to us; our bodies are accustomed to them. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, and its people are beautiful as well—so are their hearts.

As we walked, people welcomed us warmly. They offered banana leaves and flowers to soften our path. We were delighted by the warmth in their hearts and continued our journey with encouragement.

Sri Lankans are kind and compassionate. Lord Buddha taught the world love and righteousness; therefore, I urge the people of Sri Lanka to follow these principles.

Peace transcends countries and borders. It is fundamental to everything. The entire world must seek peace and express love. Even “Aloka,” who accompanied us and did not understand any language, was able to understand communication through love.

I extend sincere gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, government officials, security forces, and all Sri Lankans for their support. We offer blessings to Sri Lanka and its people; may love and peace endure.
