Vijitha Herath stated that no citizen has the right to obstruct police duties, and that legal action will be taken through court against Wimal Weerawansa for allegedly obstructing police work and behaving indecently.

He accused Weerawansa of creating controversies to project himself as a “cardboard hero”.

He further stated that police intervention was necessary due to the tense situation created at the scene. He added that it is a different matter to pay floral tributes at memorial sites, but quite another to create disturbances there.

He confirmed that legal action will be initiated and court proceedings will follow.
