Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Chaminda Wijesiri has alleged that the disappearance of 2.5 million US dollars owed to Australia was not an accident but a deliberate act of theft orchestrated by the government.

Speaking at a press conference in Badulla on April 24, he questioned why the government had failed to report the incident to the CID despite being aware of it for months.

He claimed the funds were likely diverted to international accounts linked to those in power and accused officials of attempting to shift blame to foreign hackers. He further alleged that the Finance Ministry Secretary and Treasury officials were attempting to cover up the incident.

Wijesiri warned that failure to conduct a proper investigation would lead to those responsible being labelled as fraudsters in history.
