Tissa Kuttiarachchi Expresses Regret for False Statement Before Magistrate
31-Jul-2025.

Former SLPP MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi expressed regret before a magistrate for making unfounded claims that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had invested USD 5 billion in Moldova—a statement that has since been proven false.
State Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Sunil Wattagala urged opposition members to refrain from making such baseless accusations against the government.
Kuttiarachchi made this statement during court proceedings on July 29, at the Colombo Magistrate's Court, following the defamation case filed by President Dissanayake.
He had previously alleged in October 2023 that several billion dollars were deposited into the NPP’s bank accounts from abroad, and that USD 5 billion had been invested in Moldova by the President.
President Dissanayake filed the defamation case against Kuttiarachchi on October 13, 2023. Kuttiarachchi acknowledged in court that the claims were false and expressed his regret.
Another defamation case has also been filed against SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam. State Minister Wattagala reaffirmed the government's commitment to resolving such matters through the judicial system.
