New Police Unit to Recover Stolen Assets

Deputy Inspector General of Police for Western Province (North) Nishantha Soyza announced that a new investigation unit will be established to probe assets acquired through criminal activities.
The unit will be formed under the Prevention of Proceeds of Crime Act passed in Parliament.
He revealed this at a special media briefing held at Police Headquarters on August 23.
The Deputy Inspector General further noted that the new division, named “Division for Investigations into Assets Acquired through Criminal Activities,” will be launched under the Inspector General of Police during the upcoming Police Day celebrations.
Through special operations, police have already confiscated properties worth 4.5 billion rupees from organized criminals. These include buildings, houses, vehicles, lands, jewelry, boats, and 57 million rupees in cash. These assets have been frozen under the Money Laundering Act.
