Namal Rajapaksa alleges political victimisation and pressure on witnesses
10-May-2026.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa has alleged that witnesses are being subjected to severe pressure and intimidation by investigative bodies, forcing some to the point of suicide due to demands for statements in line with government and police requirements.
He made these remarks at a public meeting in Ragama.
He claimed that individuals summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department or the Bribery Commission are pressured to give statements favourable to authorities, and if they refuse, they are subjected to severe harassment.
He further alleged that past incidents involved pressure on individuals to implicate Mahinda Rajapaksa and Namal Rajapaksa, and threats similar to those allegedly experienced in the Keheliya Rambukwella case.
He referred to a sworn affidavit submitted in court by Kapila Chandrasena and claimed that such pressures have led to serious consequences, including deaths.
He questioned accountability for such incidents and stated that the party is ready to cooperate with investigations whenever summoned.
He also accused authorities of threatening witnesses and forcing statements under intimidation, claiming that state institutions are being misused.
