More than 200 Muslim leaders from the Congress in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district have tendered mass resignations from their party responsibilities in protest of the government’s handling of the murder of Abdul Raheem alias Imtiyaz.
Among those stepping down are Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary MS Muhammad and Dakshina Kannada Minority Wing district president Shahul Hameed. The decision followed a meeting at Mangaluru’s Shadi Mahal, where tensions escalated during discussions on the state government’s response to Abdul Raheem’s murder in Bantwal.
“We have resigned. Until our demands are fulfilled, we will not go back to the party office,” the leaders said. No formal written resignations were submitted, the announcements were made orally.
