90 Employees Work in President’s Media Unit: MP Mujibur
22-Jul-2025.

When details were sought under the Right to Information Act about the number of staff employed in the President’s Media Division, government authorities refused to release the information.
However, United National Party (UNP) Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman revealed that approximately 90 people are currently working in the division.
He criticized the government, stating that citizens who voted for it are now disillusioned due to several misguided decisions, which have resulted in a series of national crises.
The current regime, which once condemned the previous government's lack of transparency, is now functioning in a similarly opaque manner.
At a press conference held on July 20 at the Opposition Office, Mujibur added that there has been no decision taken regarding a leadership change within the UNP. He suggested that certain external forces—and political actors who lost in past elections—are attempting to weaken the party’s leadership.
He also revealed that a new cabinet-appointed committee will investigate allegations of corruption that allegedly occurred during Sajith Premadasa’s tenure as minister.
However, he pointed out that an earlier investigation conducted under former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had found no evidence of corruption during Sajith's time in office.
Mujibur criticized the National People’s Power (NPP)-led government, arguing that it is rapidly losing public support. Despite winning a strong mandate in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, the government lost its majority in the local government elections held six months later.
He reiterated that the refusal to disclose staffing details in the President’s Media Division shows a lack of transparency.
Notably, during Ranil Wickremesinghe’s presidency, such information had been made public. Mujibur concluded that this government, which claims to stand for equality and transparency, is acting contrary to those values.
