Prime Minister Pays Condolences Following the Death of Qatar's Former Amir

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, who travelled to Qatar to convey condolences on the passing of the country's former Amir, visited the Lusail Palace in Doha on August 17, 2026.
She was received by Qatar's Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and later met with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister conveyed condolences to the Amir on the passing of his father, former Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Amir, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani; the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani; the Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim; senior members of the royal family; the sons of the late former Amir; and other members of the royal family.
