Leader of the Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) Senthil Thondaman met Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha on July 15.

During the meeting, Mr. Thondaman highlighted the difficulties faced by plantation workers in obtaining Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) visas.

While acknowledging that the OCI application process had been simplified during the recent visit of Indian Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan to Sri Lanka, he pointed out that the current application fee of around Rs. 90,000 remained unaffordable for many plantation workers.

He therefore requested that India consider introducing a concessionary fee structure for plantation community applicants seeking OCI visas.

Mr. Thondaman also briefed the High Commissioner on his recent meeting with the Chief Minister of Telangana and the discussions held during that visit.

The two sides further exchanged views on current political developments.
