Court Bars Defamatory Social Media Posts Against Jaffna University Professor

The Point Pedro Magistrate's Court has issued an interim order restraining defamatory social media posts against Professor Sivasubramaniam Raguram of the Department of Media Studies at the University of Jaffna.

The court directed several respondents to remove existing defamatory content and prohibited them from publishing further posts relating to the professor until the case is concluded. Notices have been ordered to be served on all respondents, who must appear before the court within two weeks to present their explanations.

The matter has been fixed for 27 July for further inquiry. The court also directed that contempt proceedings be initiated against one respondent over a separate social media post alleged to have scandalised the court and the presiding magistrate.
