South Asian Civil Registration Experts' Conference Opens in Colombo

A three-day South Asian Civil Registration Experts' Conference commenced in Colombo on July 13 to strengthen civil registration and vital statistics systems and enhance regional cooperation.

Organised by Sri Lanka's Department of Registrar General, the conference is being held with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), UNICEF and Vital Strategies.

Representatives from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan are participating. Discussions will focus on the digitalisation of civil registration systems, data governance, modern information-sharing technologies and the development of inclusive registration systems. The conference also provides a platform for participating countries to exchange experiences, technical expertise and best practices.
